I never expected the Fujifilm X100VI to become my primary camera for quick client jobs and personal shoots alike. For years, I relied on my Canon R5 (and before that, a Sony A7IV) to handle everything from weddings to travel. But once I held the X100VI in my hands, something clicked—literally and figuratively. Suddenly, I found myself strolling to a wedding with a single, compact camera slung over my shoulder, quietly confident this smaller system could deliver. With that, here’s my take on a X100VI review.
My first few weddings with the X100VI felt both liberating and nerve-racking. I’ve always loved being prepared for any scenario, which meant lugging multiple lenses and backup bodies. With the X100VI, however, I have one lens—no stress about which focal length to pick. I started noticing how much more I could connect with the couples, because there wasn’t a mountain of gear between us. One particular ceremony stands out: I remember slipping into the crowd almost unnoticed, capturing priceless reactions without drawing attention. That sense of immersion is what keeps me coming back to this camera.
Of course, it’s not just about sentimentality. Technically, the X100VI review side of things is equally compelling. The 40-megapixel sensor allows me to deliver large images for clients—an essential perk when couples request giant portraits. I love Fuji’s leaf shutter, which stays quiet at those delicate moments when I’d otherwise worry about distracting clicks. The built-in ND filter is another boon. It ensures I can maintain a shallow depth of field in bright conditions, even when shooting wide open at F2.
After wedding number three with the X100VI, I realized how much less fatigued I felt. My R5 and Sony setups might handle massive telephoto shots, but the X100VI handles me—my style, my pace, my preference for simplicity. And if I need close-up detail shots, the 40-megapixel files give me room to crop. I do keep an extra battery in my pocket, though, a single battery often covers a full day of shooting.
To end this X100VI review, my biggest takeaway is that the Fujifilm X100VI doesn’t just take beautiful images—it allows me to focus on what really matters: the story. Fewer decisions, less gear, more connecting with people. For me, that’s invaluable.
