X100VI Portraits: My Go-To Setup for Wedding Photography

As a Washington DC wedding photographer, I rely on a two-camera strategy that combines both power and portability. On one shoulder, you’ll find my Fujifilm XH2S equipped with the Fujifilm XF 1.4 lens for tight, detailed shots. On the other, I carry the X100VI—featuring a 23mm lens (35mm equivalent on full frame)—for candid moments and X100VI Portraits.

What makes the X100VI so special? First, it’s discreet. Guests hardly notice me snapping away, allowing for more natural and emotive expressions. While my XH2S and 1.4 lens excel at isolating subjects, the X100VI is the perfect companion for capturing the bigger picture.

Another key advantage of this setup is the flexibility it provides in post-production. I shoot RAW on both cameras but keep Fuji’s film simulations active. This means I get the best of both worlds: clean, workable RAW files and gorgeous in-camera JPEGs. When I’m culling images, the film simulations give a helpful reference for color and tone—something that’s particularly handy when crafting consistent X100VI Portraits. Later, I can tweak the RAW files for a seamless match with the images captured on the XH2S.

Wedding days move fast, and time is crucial. Having two distinct focal lengths readily available saves me from constantly swapping lenses or risking missed shots. One moment I’m using the 1.4 lens to focus on a groom’s tearful reaction, and the next I’m switching to the X100VI for a wide angle of the entire wedding party celebrating. This efficiency matters, especially when you’re navigating crowded events in places like iconic DC landmarks and venues.

Combining the XH2S with the X100VI is a game-changer for any wedding photographer who values versatility and high-quality imagery. Whether you’re capturing a grand ballroom or intimate X100VI Portraits, this pairing ensures you’ll always be ready for any emotional moment.
