As a photographer, finding the right editing tools can make all the difference in achieving your creative vision. Two popular options in the Lightroom world are Mastin Labs presets and Archetype Process profiles, but they cater to different needs. After editing over 100 weddings, I’ve found myself preferring Archetype Process profiles for their flexibility, accuracy, and superior results.
Mastin Labs presets are great for quick, one-click edits. They’re designed to replicate the look of specific film stocks and are incredibly user-friendly. However, this simplicity can come at the cost of customization, sometimes resulting in colors that feel overly saturated or less true to life. On the other hand, Archetype Process profiles are built to mimic real film stocks and camera profiles with impressive accuracy. They allow you to fine-tune colors and create a more consistent, tailored look—ideal for capturing the unique lighting, mood, and palette of every wedding.
While Mastin Labs presets may be easier to apply, the added control and precision of Archetype Process profiles make them my go-to. The extra effort in using profiles is worth it for the stunning results they produce, helping me ensure each wedding gallery feels authentic and polished. If you’re looking to elevate your editing, I highly recommend giving Archetype Process profiles a try!
